Heerlijk crafts its Nastergal/Umsobo preserve in small batches at the foothills of the Drakensberg in KwaZulu-Natal, using heirloom Solanum Retroflexum berries grown from heritage seed. Each jar contains approximately 900 handpicked, sun-ripened berries — a remarkable amount of care in every spoonful.

The family recipe, refined by Elize Conradie and continued by her daughter Wiida, contains no colourants or artificial preservatives. While traditionally enjoyed on bread, Nastergal is wonderfully versatile — pair it with cheese, scones, Greek yoghurt, or cheesecake.
